Koinobori (Carp Kites) Instructions

Children's Day, or Kodomo No Hi, is a National Holiday in Japan celebrated on May 5. This day was originally called Tango no Sekku and was a festival for boys, but now both boys and girls can celebrate Children's Day. Children's Day is the last holiday in what's called Golden Week, a cluster of holidays that runs from April 29 to May 6.

One of the traditions on this holiday is to fly huge carp-shaped kites or streamers known as koinobori outside the house. The carp symbolizes strength and success. Print out this simple diagram to colour and create your own koinobori to hang outside your house this Children's Day!
