Meisō (Meditation) Mornings

Meisō (Meditation) Mornings

Dates & Times:
Daily: 9:00 am – 10:30 am

Begin your day in stillness and tranquility with our Meisou (meditation) mornings at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden.

This peaceful morning experience invites guests to enjoy the quiet beauty of the garden during its most serene hours. Take a mindful walk, breathe in the fresh morning air, and immerse yourself in a calm, reflective atmosphere inspired by the concept of Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing)—a gentle practice of reconnecting with nature for relaxation and well-being.

This is a self-guided experience (no formal guided meditation). Guests are welcome to explore the garden at their own pace and find moments of stillness throughout the space.

Inside the pavilion, a TV display introduces the concept of meditation, accompanied by soft, peaceful music. Guests are also welcome to practice seated self meditation (zazen) facing the karesansui (dry landscape garden). When seated, the surrounding white wall helps block out distractions, allowing for deeper focus and reflection.

On rainy days, the experience becomes even more serene. Guests are invited to sit in the pavilion and meditate while looking out onto the gentle rainfall, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. You’re welcome to bring a book, sip a complimentary warm drink, and take in the calming scent of rain on the garden and the natural western hinoki and white cedar wood of the pavilion.

At the reading corner in the Bunka Centre—where you can pick up your complimentary warm drink—you’ll also find a collection of Japanese books on landscape, culture, and history. Please feel free to borrow one and bring it into the garden to enjoy during your quiet reflection time.

Includes:

  • Discounted admission (all ages)
  • One complimentary refreshment (coffee, tea, or water) from the Bunka Centre Café
