Toro Nagashi

August 13

Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden will be celebrating Toro Nagashi this year on August 13th between 6 pm – 9:30 pm. Last entry is at 9 pm.

Guests can float a water lantern to help guide the souls of deceased friends and family to the spirit world. Toro Nagashi, meaning “flowing lanterns”, also typically marks the end of Obon, which is a Buddhist festival that honours the spirits of one’s ancestors. It is a moving and healing ceremony and can help greatly in the grieving process.

A special package is available to those who’d like to participate, for $15 you will receive admission into the garden, a drink, a cookie, as well as a lantern and candle to float on our pond. Volunteers will be here to assist you with calligraphy to write a loved one’s name or a special message to place inside your lantern before launch.

Get your tickets inside the Bunka Centre on arrival.
