Toro Nagashi

Join us for a magical evening as we honour the traditional Japanese ceremony of Toro Nagashi, where beautifully lit lanterns are floated on water to remember and pay tribute to those who have passed.🏮❤️
UPDATE: Due to unpredictable weather, we’ve extended our Toro Nagashi event to August 17th. If you prefer to avoid the rain, you can use your August 16th ticket to attend August 17th instead.
Guests can float a paper lantern to help guide the souls of deceased friends and family to the spirit world. Toro Nagashi, meaning “flowing lanterns”, also typically marks the end of Obon, which is a Buddhist festival that honours the spirits of one’s ancestors. Lanterns will be available for purchase in the garden for $5/each on card only (no cash). Free green tea will be available for guests, first come – first served.
A Toro Nagashi Festival Package is available for $15/person and includes garden admission, a lantern, a drink and a cookie.
Date: August 16 & 17, 2024
Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Get your tickets inside the Bunka Centre on arrival, or by choosing August 16th or August 17th as a date selection on our General Admissions page. Annual pass holders will have free entry, but it will not include a lantern.
