Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society is an Alberta non-profit Society founded in 2012 with the aim of bringing high-quality performances of Shakespeare’s plays to audiences of all ages in Lethbridge and S. Alberta. Our casts and crews are drawn from the University of Lethbridge Theatre Program, both current students and alumni, as well as from Community Theatre. Many of our ‘Shakespeare grads’ go on to theatre-related careers - either as teachers or as professional actors in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto. For the past four summer seasons, even during the covid years, we have performed some of Shakespeare’s best loved plays in the beautiful Japanese Garden.

Our ‘Hamlet’ is a fast-paced and exciting 90 minute version, directed by Shelley Scott, a long time Theatre Professor at the University of Lethbridge: the exquisite costumes are again designed and created by Amanda Epp. In this play, the ghost of the dead King of Denmark appears to his son, Hamlet, urging him to avenge his murder by killing the new King, Claudius. Hamlet pretends madness, contemplates life and death, and seeks revenge on his murderous uncle; but Claudius too, fearing for his own life, plots to kill Hamlet. Ghosts, stabbings and an epic duel make this play one of Shakespeare’s most intense.
