Dr. Carly Adams Wins a YWCA Women of Distinction Award!
Celebrating Dr. Carly Adams: A Guiding Light in Our Community
We are delighted to share some exciting news—Dr. Carly Adams, our dedicated board member and Project Lead for the Nikkei Memory Capture Project, has been honoured with The Guiding Light Award at Lethbridge’s YWCA Women of Distinction Awards!
The Women of Distinction Awards recognize extraordinary women in our community who, through leadership, mentorship, and dedication, have made a lasting impact. This year, Dr. Adams was celebrated for her remarkable contributions to oral history, community engagement, and education—work that has illuminated untold stories and preserved cultural heritage for future generations.
As a Professor at the University of Lethbridge, Director of the Centre for Oral History and Tradition, and Board of Governor’s Research Chair, Dr. Adams has spent years amplifying voices, particularly within the Nikkei community, ensuring that important histories are not only remembered but shared in meaningful ways. Her leadership in the Nikkei Memory Capture Project has helped document and preserve the lived experiences of Japanese Canadians, bridging past and present through storytelling.
The awards ceremony, held at the Coast Hotel & Conference Centre, brought together an incredible gathering of women whose achievements continue to shape and strengthen Lethbridge. It was an evening of celebration, reflection, and inspiration—honouring those who have paved the way, those who are making an impact today, and those who will carry the torch into the future.
We are incredibly proud of Dr. Adams and grateful for her contributions to our organization and beyond. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved recognition!
