Movement Meditation - $30.75/class

September 19 (10AM)

Participants will get to experience meditation through movement. The style, called Kinhin, comes from the Zen tradition, and involves moving mindfully. The Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden provides the perfect space for this. Kinhin often occurs between periods of Zazen (sitting meditation). This meditation experience will begin with a short period of sitting meditation, a longer period of moving meditation, and conclude with a short period of sitting meditation. Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class and meet your instructor at the Nikka Yuko Visitors Centre.

Earth Grounding Meditation - $30.75/class

September 18 (10AM)

Blending Taoist and Tantric meditation forms, this meditation facilitates reconnection with one's own true self and nature, and then extends to mindful awareness of one's place in the ever flowing movements of nature. Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class and meet your instructor at the Nikka Yuko Visitors Centre.

Meditation on Readings (Lectio Divina) - $30.75/class

September 18 (11AM)

This style of meditation shows participants how to take a “deep dive” into various texts, discerning their importance and meaning in their own life. Historically a contemplative tradition used by Benedictine Monks, Aaron adapts the practice so that it can be used with various inspirational texts, poetry, and even the lyrics of music. Last year, Aaron used the texts of Rumi for the practice. This year, he will use inspirational texts from Brad Warner, author of Hardcore Zen. Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class and meet your instructor at the Nikka Yuko Visitors Centre.

I Love the Smell of Zen in the Morning! - $30.75/class

Stay tuned for more dates!

Participants will get to experience the practice of Zazen, described by Dogen, a great Japanese Zen master, as “the gate of ease and joy”. Over the 40 minute period, we will do two 10-minute periods of sitting Zazen, broken up by 10 minutes of Kinhin (walking meditation) in the garden. Aaron will provide a brief instruction to the practice for those who are new. Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class and meet your instructor at the Nikka Yuko Visitors Centre.
