On August 17th Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden will be celebrating Toro Nagashi. This words roughly translate as river cruise. Participants float a water lantern to help guide the souls of deceased friends and family to the spirit world. Toro Nagashi also typically marks the end of Obon, which is a Buddhist festival that honours the spirits of one’s ancestors. It is a moving and healing ceremony and can help greatly in grieving process.
During the afternoon the Garden's attendants will be hosting cultural activities in the pavilion.
